Artist Biography

Will Harlan’s musical career began in grade school where he received his first musical training on clarinet, later taking saxophone lessons. During his high school years, he was a stand out as a soloist in mixed ensembles and the gospel choir. Forming a singing group at age 15, he recorded and produced two songs with the group that achieved local success. Some of his early influences were the legendary Temptations, Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Marvin Gaye, Michael McDonald, Jackson 5, Jr. Walker, Supremes, Aretha Franklin, Curtis Mayfield, Sam Cook, Smokey Robinson, and many others. The group’s first live performance with the legendary Dramatics was a huge success, which lead to more recording sessions. Always dedicated to school, maintaining honor status, after high school, he went on to pursue Electronics Engineering Technology, graduating at the top of his class. It was during this time, that he came to realize that his true gift was both playing and producing music. Inspired by legendary greats Grover Washington Jr., Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Sonnie Stitt, Stanley Turrentine, Charlie Parker, David Sanborn, Bob James, Roberta Flack, Ramsey Lewis, Earth Wind & Fire, Earl Klugh, George Benson, and the Jazz Crusaders just to name a few. This natural born artist has played at home and abroad at several venues, casinos, festivals, concerts, fund-raisers, special events and is considered to be a consummate performer and entertainer. Will has made appearances with national artists such as the Temptations, Trumpeter -Tom Brown, One Way, Chapter 8, Bassist - James Jamison Jr., Trumpeter - Marcus Belgrave, Jazz Guitarist - Earl Klugh, Teddy Harris Jr., Blues Singers - Robert Penn and Chicago Pete, The Dramatics, Roy Ayers, Ronnie Laws, and many, many others. One of his most enjoyable times was spent hosting Sunday evening Jam sessions at the legendary Bakers Keyboard Lounge in Detroit, and later hosting Thursday’s Night dates there for nearly a year. Will’s true love for music not only shows in the musical magic he produces, but also in the eyes of his listening audience. His Band has performed and delighted audiences almost everywhere. Will’s "Another Harlan Nite" CD has received TV endorsements, international airplay, rave reviews and great sales since its original release. His diversity and love for music gave him a vision of creating a fresh new sound titled "Mo-Jazz Swing Music". Will is the founder and CEO of SCI Records and currently produces several up and coming artist including "Ursula" winning several Apollo competitions and went on and competed on national TV’s "Show Time at the Apollo". She is currently putting the finishing touches on her debut CD Project. Other artists productions include "Jus Ghet", "Mr. Menace", "Boss Q", Saxophonist "Bobby C", and his new Cd project "Growth" are currently under way.
